MENTOR PROTÉGÉ PROGRAM

AGC in concert with Caltrans and the Small Business Council has developed a Mentor Protégé program designed to increase the participation of Small Business (SBE) firms and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE) in the procurement and contracting of public works projects with a special focus on Minority-owned, women-owned and disabled veteran-owned businesses. The program works by pairing large firms with small firms to assure good working relationships, proper state certification and successful competition in winning bids from public agencies. Studies have shown that small firms who participate in Mentor Protégé programs are more likely to succeed. In addition, AGC offers an emerging contractor membership, which is open to construction companies that meet a certain criteria.

SAFETY & HEALTH

AGC offers exclusive access to both advocacy and direct services. Our Safety & Health Council meets monthly and provides the opportunity to network with over 100 safety professionals working for member firms. Some of the key services include: Cal/OSHA liaison, Safety & Health Manager, safety publications and communications, education and training, and an informational lending library.

LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY

Influence in the governmental process can be time consuming and costly. However, AGC member interests and the construction industry interests are represented by a team of professional advocates located in our state and national capitals. Their proximity to where the action happens allows them direct access to the legislative process. AGC has a proven track record of promoting and protecting the interests of contractors and service providers.

LEGAL INFORMATION

AGC has a Legal Advisory Committee that is made up of construction attorneys who are strategic providers of legal construction solutions to increase our delivery of cutting edge information. Legal briefs, containing valuable construction related information from recent cases and decisions are some of the up to date communications our members receive. Additionally, the committee members provide free specialty consultations through the AGC's "Legal Hot Line."

EDUCATION FOUNDATION

The Education Foundation is committed to serve as the "main delivery arm" for training and education throughout the construction industry. The Education Foundation conducts active career day programs, which educate students and teachers on the physical environment and infrastructure's immense need for knowledgeable, well trained individuals. Additionally, the Education Foundation provides tailored training programs that keep managers and field personnel current and continuing to achieve their individual potential as employees and leaders.

INSURANCE PROGRAMS

AGC offers a wide range of group insurance options, including workers compensation and health trust which is comprised of Life, AD&D, Dental and Vision.

FORMS & PUBLICATIONS

AGC members have access to more than 400 documents, publications and forms on CD or electronically for discounted rates. All documents, publications and forms are created specifically for the construction industry and we have one for every need.

OCCUPATIONAL DIVISIONS

In order to meet the needs of the expanding construction industry, AGC maintains relationships and acts as a liaison on behalf of contractors in an effort to resolve issues of vital importance with several statewide and local agencies.

• BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

  - The AGC Building Division maintains relationships and liaison status with the following agencies: AIACC, Department of Corrections, University of California, Contractors' State License Board, and the Office of Statewide Planning & Development.




• ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION

  - The AGC Joint Engineering Division maintains relationships and liaison status with the following agencies: Caltrans, Highway Funding Initiative, Municipal Utilities, Ports of Oakland, Long Beach and Los Angeles, Corps of Engineers, and Regional Transit Authorities.

INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS SERVICES

AGC is the only statewide construction trade association that provides both regional and statewide labor/industrial relations services. This unique status allows us the ability to provide our members with comprehensive and consistent services up and down the state. These services include: Master Labor agreements - both negotiated and administered, Grievance and Arbitration assistance, Up to date prevailing wage information, Market-specific contract negotiations, Project Labor Agreement negotiations and administration, Jurisdictional dispute resolution assistance, Apprenticeship training and hiring requirement assistance, and Trust fund audit assistance and information.
